What types of PVB film are there?
Various types of film are available. The most common ones, and the ones kept in stock, are:
- Normal clear film
- Matt film
- Acoustic film
Besides these, other types are also available, such as printable films, coloured films and weather-resistant films. These are very specific films and therefore also expensive.
The films are 0.38 mm thick as standard, but because glass types with two films are also quite common, there are also films with the thickness of 2 films, in other words 0.76 mm. Because such a film has the properties of 2 films, it is also referred to as 2 films in the product name. For example 44.2 (two glass panes of 4 mm with 2 films in between, so this glass is 4 + 4 + 0.76 = approx. 8.76 mm thick). This says a lot about the properties of the pane and can also be measured against the NEN standards for safety glass.
Do take care with glass types with a matt film containing 2 films, for example: "laminated glass 44.2 matt film". This can be 2 films of 0.38 mm or 1 film of 0.76 mm. Why take care? Because the 2 separate films can consist of 1 clear film and 1 matt film, or of 2 matt films. Of course, 0.76 mm of matt film gives the film more whiteness than 1 matt film of 0.38 mm together with 1 clear film of 0.38 mm. Pay close attention to this, especially if you are replacing a pane or placing one next to an existing pane.
