How can I have the edges of my custom mirror finished?

For edges that will be visible, always choose a polished edge finish: it makes the edge of your custom mirror smooth and neat. There are three options: unfinished, polished, and a bevelled edge with a polished edge.

Unfinished edges

Without grinding, the edge of a mirror is as sharp as that of broken glass. Cutting and breaking also leave small chips along it. If the mirror fits completely inside a frame or surround, that is not a problem. A finished edge does make fitting more pleasant, because you will not cut yourself on the sharp edge.

Polished edges

Polishing is a neat grinding process that makes the edge smooth and free of damage. If the edges of the mirror will be visible, this is always the right choice.

Bevelled edge

With a bevelled edge, a sloping edge is ground away around the front of the mirror. This gives your mirror an attractive finish and an extra dimension. You choose the width yourself, within what the thickness of the glass allows:

  • 4 mm mirror: bevelled edge up to 30 mm wide
  • 6 mm mirror: bevelled edge up to 40 mm wide
  • 8 mm mirror: bevelled edge up to 50 mm wide

With a bevelled edge too, visible edges are polished. You then get a bevelled edge with a polished edge finish.
